Char Bar’s Sensational BBQ & Pickleball: Parkville’s New Hotspot!

Hey there, foodies and fun-lovers! Have you heard the sizzling news? Char Bar, renowned for its lip-smacking smoked meats and quirky lawn games, is spreading its flavorful wings to Parkville. That’s right, nestled near the scenic Thousand Oaks, just a stone’s throw from the tranquil waters of Riss Lake, Char Bar is bringing its unique blend of southern-inspired BBQ and amusements to Creekside near Interstate 435 and Hwy. 45.

The Char Bar Legacy

Back in October 2014, James Westphal, Mark Kelpe, and Mitch Benjamin fired up the grills at the original Char Bar in Westport. Fast forward to today, and they’re opening their second location. Mitch, a pitmaster with over two decades of experience, is the genius behind Char Bar’s famous smoky barbecue sauces and rubs. His creations began at Kansas City’s American Royal World Series of Barbecue and have evolved into a line of signature sauces that you can now enjoy at your table.

Not Just Your Average BBQ Joint

Char Bar isn’t just about the meats (though they’re mouthwateringly good). Think burnt ends, ribs, and a menu that boasts a variety of salads, platters, and sides. Michael Peterson, the culinary director, ensures that there’s something for everyone. As Westphal puts it, they wanted to create a place that serves fantastic barbecue and offers a variety of choices to cater to different tastes.

Pickleball? Yes, Please!

Adding to the fun, the new Char Bar at Creekside will feature not just tasty bites but also pickleball courts. That’s right, pickleball – the fastest-growing sport in the U.S.! Whether you’re a seasoned player or just curious, Char Bar plans to offer instruction and even roll out a regular pickleball league.

A Perfect Fit for Parkville

The Creekside development, with its mix of retail space, a hotel, and youth baseball fields, seemed like the perfect spot for Char Bar’s expansion. With easy highway access, it’s a hop, skip, and a jump from various communities, including the elegant The National, known for its lush golf course – perfect for a post-game lunch or drink.

Seasonal Sips and Smokes

Like its Westport sibling, Char Bar in Parkville will offer a range of seasonal and specialty beverages. Their signature ‘smoking gun’ cocktail, infused with wood smoke, is a must-try. And let’s not forget the beer garden and outdoor seating, ideal for those sunny Parkville days.

A Story of Passion and Expansion

For Westphal, the restaurant business was love at first shift. Since opening his first restaurant with Mark in 1997, they’ve ventured into various aspects of the industry, from operations to consulting. Char Bar’s expansion to Parkville is a new chapter in this delicious journey.
